Faith Formation - Make it Lifelong
At St. John's we believe faith formation is an important tool in helping parents guide and nurture the spiritual lives of children.  That is why we offer faith formation for children in preschool through 12th grade.  This one hour a week gives children and youth an opportunity to experience the Word of God through community and real-life relationships and, when in partnership with parents, helps prepare them to become loving disciples and servants of Christ.
Our youth Sunday school classes meet Sundays at 9:00a September through May. Grades 6th through 12th are using Journey 2 Adulthood, a program that celebrates the transition from youth to adulthood while exploring spirituality and service.  The 6th-7th grade session, Rite 13, focuses on celebrating the individuality of each young person and their creative potential.  The session for the 8th and 10th grades, J2A, engages youth with the skills and critical thinking involved with aduthood.  The final session in the program, Youth at Church (YAC) is for 11th-12th grades and gives youth an opportunity to find their place in ministry at church.  All classes participate in several service projects throughout the year, including a mission trip in the summer. For more information about the Journey to Adulthood program visit www.leaderresources.org/j2a.
Because we believe that children are a valuable part of our parish, we do not have Sunday school classes for grades preschool through 6th on the first Sunday of the month from September to May.  We call this "First Sunday". This gives children an opportunity to attend the entire worship service with their families. There is a children's sermon, and the music is family friendly.
Children's Sunday school classes meet at 9:45 a.m. September through May. The children join their families at the passing of the peace. Our talented and experienced teams help the children better understand their place in God's kingdom through stories, art, imaginative play, service projects and other activities.  Children are warmly welcomed in inclusive and loving environments.
