The State Street Community Garden is officially open!

Thank you for wanting to learn more about the State Street Community Garden! As part of our Girl Scouts Silver Award project, we are working with the people of St. John’s Parish to plan a community garden to help with the struggle of food insecurity in Kirkland. Part of our project’s goal is to create sustainable change, and that is where we need your help. Volunteer today!

The State Street Community Garden officially opened September 22, 2024. We celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a volunteer information session led by Girl Scouts Reina and JoJo.

Our special guests included City of Kirkland Mayor Kelli Curtis, as well as other city officials. We were also joined by Ciscoe Morris, gardening expert, TV and radio personality, and author.

City of Kirkland Grant Recipient

We are very proud to announce that St. John's, in support of the State Street Garden Project, has been awarded a grant from the City of Kirkland!

The 'Ignite Kirkland' initiative, sponsored by the Kirkland Parks and Community Foundation, is designed to empower nonprofits that serve the Kirkland community and fuel their impactful work.

The garden serves as an inclusive space where individuals of all ages can learn about sustainable gardening and contribute to the community's wellbeing. We hope to impact at least 50 households in Kirkland through direct participation in gardening activities, educational events, and the provision of fresh produce, promoting environmental stewardship and a stronger sense of community.

Since the State Street Community Garden was only recently established, we are still working on building community awareness and engagement. With grant support, we plan to organize events to draw attention to the garden, recruit volunteers, and build long-term partnerships. As awareness grows, we will develop a base of volunteers and community supporters to sustain the garden. We will also seek donations, sponsorships, and collaborations with local organizations to secure additional resources for the future.

Stay tuned for more details about the project and grant.

Developing the State Street Community Garden

In June, we prepared the garden space.

On July 27 and August 3, we worked together to plant the garden.
